Making a Bottle using Gradient Mesh and Warp

 

1 Choose the Rectangle tool.


2 Make a rectangle.



3 Choose the Gradient Mesh and set the rows at 6 and Columns at 4.



4 Using the Direct Selection tool choose a row at a time and move it. Hold down Shift as you go along.

5 Choose the mesh on the right and left with the Direct Selection tool. Using the Shift key add the extra selections. Now click a darker green.


 


6 Use the same method to add shadow and light to the piece.



7 Choose the two rows at the bottom.

8 Double-click on the Scale tool. Set to Uniform and Scale of 120%.

 


 

 



9 Choose the top and third rows and scale to 80%.

 

 


10 Choose a couple of points on the bottle. Then click a highlight colour.


 


11 Make an Envelope Distort and select Make with Mesh.

12 Set Rows to 3 and Columns to 1.

 

 


13 With the Direct Selection tool choose the bottom row and move up. Hold the Shift key down too.

14 Choose the two top rows and Scale to 30%.

15 You should get the following image.

 


16 To draw a cork stopper, make a rectangle and add a gradient. Then add some circles to represent the holes in the cork. Group it. Then group the bottle and the cork.

 

 


17 Choose the Warp Options and set to Bulge with a Horizontal Bend of 37%. Click OK. Select Expand Appearances.

 


 

 

 

 


18 Choose the bottom points and Scale to 30%.

 


 

 


19 Making sure that everything is grouped. Press Expand Appearance.

 


20 To give the original bottle a new colour, use the Direct Select tool and click on new colours. Then reuse Warp to remake the shape.
